Memorial Races

Robbie Williams Memorial

Robbie joined the NVC as an under 17 junior in 2000 when he was still also competing in triathlon. He raced in club, interclub and state events through into his under 23 and elite years, advancing to NRS racing and competing in Belgium, the UK, the Tour of Qatar and in Spain.

2006 saw Robbie finish 6th in the Australian Road Championships and finished second in the Canberra Tour after winning the prologue time trial plus another stage. He lost the lead in that race through a puncture and fall. In 2007 Robbie won the prestigious Goulburn to Camden classic. He was a NVC champion at all disciplines and has won both the club’s Jack Hartnett memorial and the Jones Memorial on two occasions, a great up and coming talent from the club who passed away from a medical condition well before his time.

In 2023, the event became a 6 race series of road and criterium races.

Jack Hartnett Memorial

Jack Hartnett was a bike racer in the 1930's and 1940's racing for the Eastern Suburbs and Randwick Botany clubs in those years. Jack was a scratch rider on the road with those clubs and has an impressive record.

Jack moved to Nowra in the 1980's and became a strong supporter of the local cycling. He started the Jack Hartnett shield for a local road race and when he passed away this became the Jack Hartnett Memorial.

George Johnson Memorial
The George Johnson Memorial is the oldest of the Nowra Velo Club’s trophy races. It has been held every year since the club was reformed in 1968 and is to honour a past president of the club.

George Johnson’s son Robert was the president of the club in the early 1970’s and his grandson Scott was the club president for some years.

The George Johnson memorial was originally run from Ulladulla to Nowra on the Princes Highway until 1975 when that course became to busy to hold road races.
